FAQ: Programming

If we miss a show, or just want a copy of it, where can we order it and how much will it cost?
It depends on the show. If it is a CBS Network Show, sometimes they will offer a special 800 number to order a certain show. Other times they are just not available. Network News type programs (48 Hours, CBS Sunday Morning , etc.) can be ordered on videotape, or just transcripts can be ordered. Just contact KOVR programming and they will give you the specific information you need for your show. KOVR only takes these shows directly from the satellite and does not keep copies of them. Nor would we have the rights to copy and distribute them, if indeed we had the tapes.

Why do you not carry CBS' The Guiding Light?
Up until about three years ago, Channel 10 was the CBS affiliate in Sacramento. After doing some research they determined that The Guiding Light was not a very good performer in this area and decided to replace it with something else. When KOVR 13 did the affiliate switch a few years ago, the station already had programming purchased for the same time period as The Guiding Light was airing in and agreed with Channel 10 that airing something else was a better choice.

Why are your prime time shows on an hour earlier on Monday through Friday?
When researching viewer habits in the Sacramento and surrounding areas, we determined that this is an "early to rise, early to bed" town. We moved prime time up an hour so that people could watch all the CBS Shows, and then catch a late newscast at 10PM before they went to bed. Our 10PM newscast is a full hour of news, sports and weather, and serves our viewers needs for information if they don't want to stay up even later to watch the 11PM news on another channel.

Why is the Howard Stern Show not carried on your station?
The Howard Stern Show is not a CBS Network show. This means that any of the television stations serving the Sacramento market can acquire the rights to air it. KOVR 13 had already purchased the rights to the reruns of NYPD Blue for the same time period as the Howard Stern Show is airing in. We have a mulit-year committment to NYPD Blue, so we couldn't even consider it.

FAQ: KOVR 13 SuperCast website

I can't see anything with that dark blue background.
If you're getting a dark blue background in the text area of any page, you are most likely using an outdated version of a web browser. KOVR 13 SuperCast is best viewed on Netscape Communicator 4.0 and Microsoft Explorer 4.0. The site is compatable with older versions, but in some older Netscape products the dark blue background shows up. You will need to upgrade to a newer browser, which are free and readily available.

Why is there so much empty space on the right side of the screen? or Why is the screen cut off?
KOVR 13 SuperCast is best viewed at 800x600 pixels. To change your screen display for Windows operating systems, right-click your mouse while holding the cursor over the desktop. Select properties. Choose the Settings tab in the Display Properties window. Under Screen Area, change the setting until it reads 800 by 600 pixels. This is the standard viewing size for most sites on the internet.

The newscast said to come to the web site for a link. Where do I find it?
Our Sites & Links section contains this information. You can access it at any time from the News page.

I saw a recipe on a broadcast this morning, and the commentator said I could come online to get it. Where is it?
KOVR 13 archives the majority of recipes presented by Dewey Hopper in the Dewey's Recipes feature. You can access this feature at any time from the News page. If you saw the recipe on a CBS network show, or on any syndicated broadcast shown on KOVR 13, the recipe will not be found on the KOVR 13 SuperCast web site.

Why do I keep getting asked to accept 'cookies'?
There seems to be a lot of confusion about any cookies associated with KOVR 13. KOVR 13 does not employ cookies on its web site. However, a small percentage of KOVR 13's web content does employ .ASP files. Some web browsers confuse .ASP files for cookies. .ASP files are used on the following pages: ON DEMAND SIGN UP PAGE, "TOM" HUMOR PAGE and the MAIN WEATHER PAGE. KOVR 13 is in the process of removing all .ASP files and expects to have them replaced by the end of 1999. You can simply "refuse" the prompt that comes up if you have your browser configured to not accept cookies. If you are getting "dozens" of cookie prompts, then you may be having a problem with your web browser or ISP. We have extensively tested the KOVR 13 site on a variety of machines and have found the cookie prompt to appear on only the pages listed above. Furthermore, KOVR 13 does not have any plans to use cookies on its web site. If there were cookies on the site (which, again, there are not), they would be removed.

If you have any other questions about the web site, you can email them at webmaster@kovr13.com.
