Death to Information!

I believe that one of the changes in The Shift will be that the overload of information will be better organized and finadable.

But it’s gonna take a while.

In the meantime we must be diligent to limit the amount of information – which translates into choices – to maximize our effectiveness.

Gerry McGovern states it well (as usual):

There has never been more information. And that’s exactly the problem. Too much information too quickly published is just as bad as too little.

Human beings are much better at dealing with scarcity than with glut. This is particularly true when it comes to information. It has long been accepted wisdom that you can’t have too much information. You can.

McGovern uses some timely examples of this as well as research.

I confess that I was a participant in the age of Information Vomiting years ago. But the challenge of distilling your content into bite-sized, easily-digestible pieces fosters quicker, better decisions on the part of our website visitors.

It really does come down to the silly acronym: KISS (Keep It Simple – uh – Sunshine!)...
