RSS: Not ready for prime time

From Seth Godin: “New Jupiter study shows that big time marketers aren’t excited about it. Which gives the rest of us more time to get it right. Hurry, before the spammers show up!”

I agree that we need to be ready if/when RSS does hit a higher adoption rate. However, that won’t happen until it’s a seamless function for the average user (like built in to OS or browser).

For now, that seems to be a little ways off. Stay tuned…(and do get ready!)

Don’t know what RSS is? Here’s a great, simple explanation...

  1. It’s “built in” to Firefox… :-) But the user who is going to know to install Firefox is probably going to be savy enough to read feeds anyway… Maybe? Maybe there are the “savy enough for Firefox” users that will discover feeds this way.

  2. I think it depends on what you view the purpose of RSS to be. I want RSS feeds to put content onto my website, and I want to deliver my content to other web sites. In that regard, it’s not only ready for primetime, it’s there.
