Nav 101

Navigation – or creating a succinct, clear navigation – is probably one of the biggest challenges in a website project. Not only does it have to fully encompass all that the organization has to offer, but it has to be instantly understandable by the site visitor.

Of course, no one can ever achieve that goal 100% of the time, but there are certain standards that have been discovered that should generally be followed to get as close to that as possible.

Derek Powazek at A List Apart has presented many of these standards in his helpful article “Where Am I?

If you’re heading up a site project (new or redesign), it would behoove you to distribute this article to the principles in the project. Anyone can understand Powazek’s simple presentation of the challenges of thorough and simple navigation.
